YAN MIKIRTUMOV

Yan Mikirtumov was born in Moscow (Russia) in 1974. He started studying music at the age of 5 at a especial boys choir school called “Sweshnikov” in Moscow. In 1997 he finished his Master degree as a Choir conductor, singer and teacher in Academy of Choral Art in Moscow, where he studied with V. Popov (conducting) and Mikhail Arkadiev (piano). In 1997/1998 he took the composition course in Moscow Conservatory with R. Ledenev, G. Dimitriev, V. Agafonnikov.

Since 1989 he started his performing work as a singer, choir conductor and a pianist. He has participated in concert tours and recording in Europe and North America, worked with baroque music ensembles and dramatical theatres in Russia.

Since 1999 he works and lives in Portugal where he works as a music teacher, accompanist and a composer. He has founded his own children choir in Albufeira and his quartet "Contradição" which performs his own music. Ian Mikirtoumov has collaborated as a conductor with Lisbon Opera Theatre in the work of the opera "Boris Godunov" of M. Mussorgsky. His choir represented Portugal in France, Germany, Greece, Austria and Spain on Festivals of Youth Choirs. He has recorded different CD´s: “Sinos ao longe” (Choir conductor, 2005), “Con´tadição” (composer and pianist, 2007),“Machine Lyrique”,“La Luna” and “Cantabile” (accompanist 2006, 2008 and 2009).

 

He regularly collaborates with various entities in the Portuguese music scene as the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, Orchestra of the Algarve, Eborae Music, Chamber Orchestra of Cascais and Oeiras, Interpretation Competition of Estoril, Antena 2, among others. His musical arrangements for the orchestra were touched by accordionist Gonçalo Pescada in several concerts, that took place in Portugal and Spain. He is regularly invited to accompany instrumentalists and singers.

 

In 2009 he made exclusive arrangements and orchestrations for the project Tito Paris & Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra that was performed in Portugal and Cape Verde. Some of his works was edited by “Copy-us Verlag” (Germany).

 

He is currently professor at the Conservatory of Music in Albufeira, National Academy of Orchestra and the University of Evora.
